Exploring New Therapeutic Approaches for Medulloblastoma

Project ongoing

Medulloblastoma (MB) is a brain cancer that affects children. Current treatment for MB leaves patients with debilitating brain issues. We found that aggressive MB have low activity of a process called nonsense mediated decay (NMD). Therefore, by increasing NMD activity, we might treat MB. To test this, I generated MB cellsthat have increased levels of NMD activity. Mice injected with these cellssurvived longer compared to mice injected with the same cells not having increased levels of NMD activity. I will explore other waysto increase NMD,such as antisense oligonucleotides and drugs. Finally, I will test these potential new therapiesin mice with MB to see if they improve survival.
